hooray for the end of howard!

not a minute too soon.

so is beowulf not out in aus yet or were you all busy watching the election?
oh wait, i'm on the net. i could check. indeed. i thought the neil gaiman completists had had enough or something.

still, one word review (just so i can get in ahead of you): messy.

my bags are in the same country though not the same place as i am. AND the atms keep letting me get money out! was almost sure that i'd emptied it on friday, but no! (no internet banking, so i have no balance more recent that 1/11. and overseas charges anall.) so yay.

Now I don't want to go all red-blooded footy bogan in this hallowed place of intellectual enlightenment, BUT I have to say it seems a damn shame to put a nude Angelina Jolie in your movie and cover her with CGI. A missed opportunity, shall we say.

Either way, I haven't seen a Gaiman movie yet and I guess I'm not about to start. They don't seem to translate, for some reason.

Oh, and is the trailer misleading or is it really all set in one small, damp cave?

i never actually saw the trailer, but no, it's not entirely set in one small damp cave. there's also a mead hall.
star dust was a good move. it gained approval from my non-gaiman or fantasy interested friends. how many movies has he been involved in? i can only think of three - neverwhere was a tv show before it was a novel.
angelina's gold paint doesn't really leave a lot to the imagination, though. if it helps.

You're right, actually - I thought there was an older project he co-wrote the script for that bombed, but IMDB says I'm wrong.

You've read His Dark Materials, right? And you've heard there's a movie adaptation coming out, The Golden Compass? Apparently there's a fuss in "certain parts" of the US over it being a Trojan horse to indoctrinate children with anti-religious propaganda.

yeah, i barely remember reading it, but i got to read it vicarously a couple months ago at work when Maurice read it and commentated his reading it for me.
Personally i like the new covers that say "the amber spyglass - now at cinemas as the golden compass" because amber isn't as hollywood as gold, i spose.

"November 29" says an ad for Beowulf in Melbourne.
