Ahh, poop. My job didn't take out nearly enough money to pay back my HECS. Now I owe the tax office $1500! Not the kind of tax refund I was looking for in a year that involved two conventions and a trip to Europe.
Too late for this one now, but if you are going to owe heaps, it can be worth using a tax accountant. They can put your return in much later (Apr/May) and therefore delay the bill significantly.
