OH. "shift" in ireland does not mean "move" or "change places" or "take turns" AT ALL. (though, what it does mean would usually entail moving, yes.)
For an amusing look of horrified incomprehension, tell a roscommon boy to shift yer arse already.

I wasn't going to go to dublin twice in a week! But hey, i have tomorrow off. There is a comic convention. let us check train and bus timetables.

Well when you put it like that it is very disgusting, and well awkard to do to yourself. However by context he should have kknown you didn't mean that!

Enjoy the trip to the big smoke, i am not heading towards the con, saving so i can actually afford to go to Octocon....

hence the incomprenhension. and now he knows that no one will understand him when he moves to brisbane, it will be amusing. and someone will ask him 'can't you speak the queen's english' and he will FROTH AT THE MOUTH.
