jarhead & creepy man

so I originally wanted to update something about seeing Jarhead, but all my thoughts about history and using recognisable music in movies were driven out of my head by creepy guy walking home.
Call me crazy, but if i'm walking through a less than salubrious neighbourhood at midnight -- even if on a quiet monday -- i'd rather not be followed by anyone. If this person tries to start a conversation by asking if i'm married, i'm crossing the road, and pretending i live right there!
And then he got all miffed at the fact i wouldn't give him a goodnight kiss! what the hell? did he really think that might ever work?

so i am disappointed by Deakin no longer having o-week, sure, but really, only for my little brother's sake. He wants the chance at least to see for himself how pointless it is!
I went to a couple events when i was a first year (some cause i had to, but others because they sounded like fun.) But i was only at campus for the other fraction of o-week i attended because i had to be at the library. And it struck me that year as being even more pointless and boring than it'd been the other time. In Geelong, maybe it was more fun: a buddy of mine who's into uni politics even became an o-week host for a couple of years.
But it strikes me that even without vsu, the (presumably growing) apathy of my peers and the fact that most of us are working & have little time for uni-related social life would have killed o-week shortly anyway. How much money are we prepared to spend to prop up something very few of us care about? Some of the union's work is worthwhile: i'd hate to have to attend a uni without somewhere to eat & drink. A uni in Burwood anyway. But some of it is painfully irrelevant.
And yes, at least some of that is supposed to be a link to the online version of a news report i heard on the abc half an hour ago. Shall update again when i can find one.
