Nov. 5th, 2007 06:44 pmAm in paris with Caity. We are sitting in the living room (or maybe even the sitting room! I will never get these right. I had no idea people cared enough to need to correct me!) of her parent's flat in montmatre and using the internet on our two laptops. However, we have not yet got to the point of having to im each other while in the same room.
We visited De Superman au Chat du Rabbin (link in french) at the Musee d'art et d'historie du Judaisme today. Vast quantities were in english (most of the comics were american, at least the early ones) and while the author/illustrator biographies were in French, i know way more french than i used to! I got maybe 4 in 5 words and then once you have that much you can guess what the sentence means. Or ask Cait to translate. And then as long as so much of the signage was in english i grabbed a magazine about the expo to send to Louise - but no, it's ALL in French. Oops.
Still can't speak much French, just little questions whose replies I wouldn't understand. Hooray for me! I should thus be fine in Belgium and then we'll see about Holland. Although, hmm. I'm not going to be in the French speaking part of Belgium. Not for more than an hour or two, i'm fairly sure.
(Yes yes i know everyone speaks english everywhere. a- this is not as fun as trying to get by in another language; b- "everyone speaks english" does not include the packaging on food at supermarkets. And you can't tell if something is pasta sauce or sweet and sour cooking sauce until you open it! as we found out in budapest.)
